Gorgias alternatives for Shopify stores that want AI email support
Most "Gorgias alternative" lists are surface-level. Here is one written by someone who builds in this space, with honest takes on which tool fits which Shopify store.
Quick context: I am Tommy, the founder of Trigli, which is one tool on this list. Gorgias is good and I am not going to pretend otherwise. The reason this post exists is that "Gorgias alternative" usually translates to "I want the AI part without the helpdesk and the per-ticket pricing math." Which is a reasonable thing to want for a small Shopify store.
Why people search for Gorgias alternatives
In my experience, the search comes from one of three places:
- The pricing got expensive as volume grew. Per-ticket plus AI Agent at $0.40/resolution adds up fast on a busy week.
- The store is too small for the helpdesk to feel justified. The owner is the only person doing CX and Gmail still works fine.
- The team wants AI on email but does not want to leave their existing inbox.
If you are at a 10+ person CX team running on Gorgias and the integration is the load-bearing piece, this post is probably not for you. Gorgias is good and the cost is justified at that size. This is for the smaller stores looking at the math.
What Gorgias actually does well
Be honest about what you would be giving up if you switch:
- Native Shopify integration. Order data, return processing, refund actions inside the same UI as your tickets. This is real and useful.
- Multi-channel inbox: email, chat, IG DMs, FB Messenger, SMS, all in one place.
- Macros, rules, views, queues. Real helpdesk workflow.
- Reports for CX productivity and ticket trends.
- A mature ecosystem of apps and integrations across the Shopify world.
If most of those bullets matter to your operation, you should not switch off Gorgias.
The alternatives, with honest takes
Trigli (the one I built)
What it is: AI that connects to your Gmail, reads your docs, and drafts replies. Includes an embeddable chat widget. Flat pricing.
For Shopify stores: works well for stores where most support is policy questions (return, sizing, shipping, "where is my order"). The AI extracts order numbers from emails and includes tracking info in drafts. It does not have a native Shopify app, so anything that requires a structured Shopify action (refund, exchange) becomes a ticket your team handles in Shopify directly.
Pricing: $49 starter, $149 growth, $349 pro. Flat. No per-resolution fees.
Who it fits: small Shopify stores (1-5 person team) on Gmail who want AI on their email and a simple chat widget without a helpdesk.
Where it does not fit: stores where structured Shopify actions are core to support (a CX person processing 50 returns a day from inside the helpdesk), or multi-channel ops with serious IG/FB/SMS volume.
Reamaze
What it is: helpdesk + chat platform with ecommerce focus. Native Shopify integration. AI features in higher tiers.
For Shopify stores: cheaper than Gorgias at smaller scale, similar shape (it is still a helpdesk, you still leave Gmail). AI is decent but not the strongest on this list.
Pricing: starts around $29/agent/month, AI features in higher tiers.
Who it fits: small ecommerce stores who want a helpdesk experience without Gorgias pricing and are okay with AI being a feature rather than the centerpiece.
Richpanel
What it is: helpdesk with strong self-service portal features. Shopify-focused. AI features bundled.
For Shopify stores: differentiator is their customer self-service portal where customers can track orders, manage returns, etc. without emailing support at all. AI on top of that handles what does come in.
Pricing: starts around $29/month for small teams, scales up.
Who it fits: stores where shifting volume to self-service (rather than handling it) is the strategy. The portal is genuinely good for that.
eDesk
What it is: ecommerce helpdesk built for marketplace sellers (Amazon, eBay) plus DTC. AI features included.
For Shopify stores: stronger if you sell on multiple channels (Amazon + Shopify). Less compelling if you are pure Shopify.
Pricing: starts around $29-89/agent/month.
Who it fits: multi-marketplace sellers. Pure DTC Shopify stores will probably find it a worse fit than the others on this list.
Tidio
What it is: live chat + AI chatbot platform that has expanded into helpdesk. Free tier.
For Shopify stores: chat-first product. Good chat widget. The email/helpdesk side is newer and less mature.
Pricing: free tier with limits, paid plans from ~$29/month.
Who it fits: stores where chat is the main support channel and email is secondary.
HelpScout
What it is: shared inbox / lightweight helpdesk. Calm UX. AI features in higher tiers.
For Shopify stores: not Shopify-specific. The integration is via apps rather than native. Strong on UX and team collaboration features.
Pricing: starts around $25/user/month.
Who it fits: 5-15 person teams who want a shared inbox with some AI sprinkled in. Less specialized for ecommerce than Gorgias or Reamaze, but a more pleasant tool to use.
How to actually decide
I will give you a decision framework that does not assume you should pick our tool. Honest assessment based on your shape.
You should stay on Gorgias if
- Your CX team is 5+ people and they live inside Gorgias all day.
- Returns, exchanges, and refunds inside the same UI as tickets is a workflow you depend on.
- You have IG/FB/SMS volume that needs centralized routing.
- Your AI Agent cost is annoying but not catastrophic, and the rest of the platform is doing real work.
You should look at Reamaze or Richpanel if
- You like the Gorgias shape (real helpdesk) but the price is your main pain point.
- You want native Shopify integration without the per-ticket math.
- You have or want a customer self-service portal.
You should look at Trigli if
- You are a 1-5 person Shopify store and Gmail still works for the team.
- Most of your support is policy questions, not structured Shopify actions.
- You want flat predictable pricing.
- You want to be live in 5 minutes without a helpdesk implementation.
- You want a chat widget bundled in without a separate tool.
You should look at HelpScout if
- You have a 5-15 person team that needs shared inbox collaboration.
- Your support is not Shopify-specific (you sell other things too) and platform-specific integration is less critical.
- You care about a pleasant tool to actually use day to day.
The cost math at a typical Shopify store
Made-up but representative numbers for a Shopify store doing 1,000 support tickets/month with a 3-person CX team:
| Tool | Roughly | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Gorgias + AI Agent | ~$300-450/mo | Plan fee + 600 AI resolutions × $0.40 |
| Reamaze | ~$150-250/mo | AI in mid/upper tiers |
| Richpanel | ~$100-200/mo | Depending on tier |
| Trigli Growth | $149/mo flat | Includes 2,500 emails, 1,000 chats, 500 tickets |
| HelpScout | ~$100-200/mo | 4-8 agents in their plus tier |
These are illustrative. Your actual cost depends on volume, plan, and AI usage. Use this as a starting point, not a quote.
The migration question
A real consideration: switching helpdesks is annoying. Macros, rules, views, customer history. If you are switching from Gorgias and your team has years of build-up there, factor that cost in.
Trigli is unusual on this list because we do not migrate you. We connect to Gmail and run alongside whatever you have today. You can leave Gorgias on, run Trigli on the inbox in parallel for a couple weeks, and decide which one you actually use. Other helpdesks on this list require a real migration.
Honest summary
There is no single best Gorgias alternative. There is a best one for your store size and the shape of your support volume.
For most small Shopify stores asking the question, the answer is "you do not need a full helpdesk." Either run AI on top of your existing Gmail (Trigli) or pick a lighter helpdesk (Reamaze, Richpanel) and accept the trade-offs.
For larger stores with real CX teams, the right answer is often "stay on Gorgias, the cost is justified."
If "stay on Gmail, add AI" is the move, free tier on Trigli is no commitment. Run it on real email for a week before you decide.
